Sacramento Liposuction

If you are not sure what liposuction is, it is a surgical procedure that many Sacramento liposuction qualified surgeons use to provide refinement to your figure. This means that liposuction is NOT a method for weight loss or a "shortcut" to becoming thinner.

Small amounts of fat are removed during a liposuction procedure so the patient really does not lose many pounds. The great thing about liposuction is that the surgeon can use it to remove fat from targeted areas of the body that are often resistant to efforts to lose weight in patients who have, overall, already taken off a lot of pounds.

Liposuction can be used by the surgeon to target the stomach, hips, buttocks, thigh, arms, chin and neck and love handles, among others. No matter what the person does to lose additional weight, these areas of the body remain and will not even respond to even strenuous exercise. During the procedure Sacramento liposuction surgeons use equipment that lets them change the contour of the body by removing fat from these specific areas.

Fat is literally vacuumed out of the problem areas with a suction device by the surgeon. Liposuction is usually used on women patients but, more and more, men are using the procedure to reduce breast size. Many Sacramento liposuction surgeons have stated that this procedure is always most successful on patients that have firm, elastic skin and small, concentrated pockets of fat in cellultite areas.

For the results to look good, the skin must contract to conform to the new contours without sagging. Skin is less elastic on older patients, so this may mean that they are not good candidates for liposuction.

As far as recover goes, it depends on the size of the area that was treated, but, in general, patients are usually back to their routine within a week or two. To fully recover from all the effects of the surgery will take a few months. A compression garment is normally worn for a few weeks after surgery.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposculpture Surgery

The newest liposuction variant is a procedure called Ultrasound-assisted Liposculpture, often referred to by its abbreviation "UAL". The metal probe used in UAL procedures has the ability to produce high frequency, ultrasonic sounds. This high frequency sound actually makes the fat cells turn to liquid so they can then be vacuumed up by the suction part of the device.

UAL probes do not produce nearly as much bleeding or tissue damage, so the surgeon can actually remove much more fat during the procedure. Compared with traditional liposuction, UAL also produces less bruising. UAL has another advantage over traditional liposuction in that it is much less likely that there will be irregularities in the contour of the treated area.

You should be aware that the UAL technique is recommended only for certain areas of the body, so you should rely on your surgeon to recommend whether is is appropriate for you. This technique may also be significantly more expensive, since the equipment used is quite costly. Lastly, be aware that the first two generations of UAL machines could possibly damage skin with overly powerful sound waves. Third and later generation equipment apparently have resolved this problem.

Often, Sacramento liposuction surgeons will employ both UAL and traditional equipment in a surgery, depending on the patient and where the treatment area is, so you may find this true in your area also.
